Our Objectives

UNCLIAFRO follows a comprehensive "from data to service" approach, based on capacity building and co-creation with local stakeholders.

Main Pillars

1. Data Rescue and Improvement

Consolidate local observational databases through Data Rescue (DARE) activities, rigorous quality control, and homogenization of daily climate data, creating a reliable library for retrospective analysis.

2. Climate Index Development

Investigate the temporal evolution of multiple climate indices targeting strategic GFCS sectors in West Africa and thoroughly analyze their relationship with large-scale climate patterns.

3. Gridded Dataset validation

Evaluate and validate the accuracy of globally interpolated data (such as ERA5 or CHIRPS) by comparing them with reconstructed databases from on-the-ground weather stations.

4. Co-design of Climate Services

Collaborate closely with stakeholders to co-define and develop pilot products oriented to real sectoral needs with a special focus on agriculture and food security ecosystems.

5. Capacity Building

Strengthen the scientific-technical skills of the National Meteorological and Hydrological Services in Benin, Niger, and Togo for sustainable future knowledge management and decision-making.
